The work tells the story of Hassan, a wealthy young man whose father tries to marry him to his cousin, whom he does not love, and sends him to study engineering at university. He goes to learn music and playing instruments on Mohamed Ali Street, where he meets the dancer Sokra, who escapes the control and exploitation of her stepfather. A love story develops between them, but that love causes them to encounter countless major problems.
